When I first got the layoff notice, it felt like the end of the road. I had worked hard, led teams, built a career I was proud of — and suddenly, it all stopped. What I didn’t realize then is that sometimes a pause is exactly what you need to reset your direction.
The layoff turned out to be less of a dead end, and more of a redirection — one that gave me time, clarity, and purpose.
🎓 I Finished My MBA:
Instead of rushing into the next job, I focused on finishing what I started. I completed my MBA, which helped me blend my engineering background with strategic business thinking. It deepened my understanding of leadership, operations, and value-driven work — and gave me a stronger voice at the table.
🏡 I Moved Back Home to Dallas:
Coming home to Dallas was grounding. It reminded me of my roots, of what matters, and of the community that’s been cheering me on behind the scenes. The slowdown allowed me to do something I rarely had time for: to show up. For my family, for old friends, and for myself.
💗 I Volunteered My Time:
I found joy and meaning in giving back — helping local organizations and using my skills to support small community projects. Whether it was mentoring, organizing, or simply lending a hand, I realized that impact doesn’t always need a paycheck or a title — just presence and intention.
This chapter reminded me that success isn’t just about titles or promotions. Sometimes it’s about realignment — with your values, your community, and your purpose.
If you’re navigating a similar shift, know this: it’s okay to pause. You’re not falling behind — you’re just finding your own way forward; And if you’re lucky, like I was, you’ll discover that the detour can be the most meaningful part of the journey.
Thanks for being here. If you’ve navigated a layoff, life change, or career pivot, I’d love to hear what it taught you too. 💬
